4.3.6 Reflection
Consider one or more of the following questions to reflect on at the end of Subtopic 4.3. Discuss with another student or in a small group, or record (written, audio, video) your response.
How connected do you feel to nature - why does this matter?
What is preventing you from having a closer connection to nature?
How can you overcome barriers to becoming closer to nature?
What evidence do you see or hear in your own life of the dominant economic narratives around scarcity, human selfishness, the need for endless economic growth, the importance of cost and output efficiency and privatisation?
Does being more aware of these narratives, and whose interests they serve, make you more critical of them? Why or why not?
How are each of the threats to commoning presented in this section related to one another? You could draw and annotate connections between them if helpful:
human-nature dualism
enclosure
economic narratives (scarcity, human selfishness, growth, efficiency, privatisation)
geopolitics?
